Extracurricular Activities & Organizations:

*****In order to offer a wide variety of extracurricular activities, WE NEED YOU!!!!! Please consider giving some of your time, care, and expertise to our students--we will all benefit! :)

Below are the extracurricular activities we would like to offer for the 2013-2014 school year:

Destination ImagiNation, Inc. (DI)

Destination ImagiNation is an educational program that emphasizes creativity, teamwork and problem solving. Student teams solve open-ended, multi-disciplinary challenges and present their solutions at tournaments. Each of the six competitive team challenges has a different educational and creative focus: technical/ mechanical design, scientific exploration/theatre arts, theatre/literature/ fine arts, improvisation, structural/architectural design, and community service. There is also a non-competitive challenge designed for students in second grade and younger that introduces students to teamwork and creative thinking. Teams are tested to think on their feet, work together, and devise original solutions that satisfy the requirements of the Challenges. Students from first grade on can participate. To read more about this year's challenges, click here. NOTE: parent volunteers are needed in order for teams to form and compete!

Math Olympiads

Math Olympiads is a program that offers math problem solving contests for teams of up to 35 students in grades 4 through 8. We hope to offer this as a weekly lunch club starting in October. The teams will compete in five competitions throughout the school year. The program's goals include stimulating an enthusiasm and love for Mathematics, teaching major strategies for problem solving, developing Mathematical flexibility and intuition, and to provide for the satisfaction, joy, and thrill of meeting challenges!
To learn more about the program and check out sample problems, please visit the website. Again, we are hoping for parent volunteers to help!

Shakespeare Festival

The Denver Public Schools Shakespeare Festival is an annual event celebrating its twenty-seventh year. It is the oldest and largest Shakespeare Festival in the country. The day-long Festival is held in downtown Denver and provides the forum for students to perform sonnets and scenes from the works of Shakespeare as well as demonstrate dance and vocal and instrumental music of Shakespeare’s time.

Please contact Steck's music teacher, Kathy Eichenberger, for details about this program.
